A heavyweight with an unblemished resume and a propensity for lightning-strike finishes tends to draw attention to himself in mixed martial arts, especially when he stands 6-foot-7 and once wore an Olympic medal around his neck.

Robelis Despaigne—one of 34 undefeated competitors on the Ultimate Fighting Championship roster with at least one victory inside the promotion—will put his perfect 5-0 record on the line at UFC on ESPN 56, where he faces Dana White’s Contender Series alum Waldo Cortes-Acosta in a featured attraction on May 11 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis. A bronze medalist in taekwondo for his native Cuba at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the 35-year-old Despaigne has stopped all five of his opponents inside one round, four of them in less than a minute. He made a spectacular Octagon debut on March 9, when he needed just 18 seconds to put away Josh Parisian with punches as part of the UFC 299 undercard.
